Dr. Andy Palmer outlines plans for Switch Mobility within the global EV sector

“The need to make cities sustainable and to build a resilient mobility system is more critical than ever before.” MOVE Asia

Switch Mobility’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, was last week invited to speak at MOVE Asia, billed by organisers as “Asia’s most important mobility event” bringing together leaders and companies “disrupting and innovating the way we move in Asian cities”.

In his session, Dr. Palmer talked about the dominance of Chinese EV bus manufacturers and how other markets must challenge this in order to create multiple world-leading companies. He described how, according to a report by BloombergNEF, China accounted for 98% of the buses delivered worldwide in 2018, and how by 2025 they will have 600,000 municipal eBuses in service compared to 5,000 in the US.

“We believe we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of this expanding model, which indeed is expected to grow to $70B, excluding China, by 2030”.

Dr. Palmer spoke about how Switch Mobility intends to achieve economies of scale through India’s huge domestic industry, its manufacturing expertise in both India and the UK and its technologically advanced offering. He ended the talk by highlighting Switch Mobility’s ambition to “bring democratisation to urban transportation”.
